The Story Behind Enuf is Enuf
Mon 16th May 2011
Update by Ray Foxley
Dear Members thanks for the support you have given to this site and to Paul Cohen
I will be taking over from Paul on updating the Poison Free New Zealand site . And I will try to keep you all informed with the latest developments.
I share a similar passion as Paul on the putting a stop to aerial Poisons. To see outrirght ban of 1080 from New Zealand.
Other concerns that I have are:
Fluoride added to drinking water needs to be stopped.
NZ needs to be and remain a GE free country.
Reduction in Pesticide and Chemical use in New Zealand.
MY Goal and aim is to increase the awareness of the long term harms these toxins have.
To join up as many people as possible to create a louder voice.
I will be open to suggestions from all members.
Paul will still be around helping out and still contributing to the input of the site.
Thanking you all in advance for your continued support.
All the best Paul thanks for doing such a good job hope I can follow in your footsteps.
Ray Foxley
Why we're doing this? Paul
Mid August:- I knew very little about aerial dumping of toxic poisons. Reports of dead marine life, penguins and dogs deaths on our local beaches, following the aerial dumping of Brodifacoum, on islands just off Auckland. With warning signs on our beaches. No children or pets, and not to touch marine life.
20th August:- Read report from local marine scientist, concerned about the correlation. Her reports suggested that Brodifacoum is far worse than 1080.
Post 20th August:- I did my own research. And was horrified.
I made contact with people who have been affected by aerial toxic poisons.
However their cries were not being heard. For 10, 20, 30 years, people have been demanding change.
The media making it hard on all fronts, not wanting to criticise the Department of Conservation for fear of litigation.
15th September:- Watched Graf Boys doco, “Poisoning Paradise”
There was no way I could leave this issue alone.
I wanted to do something to put an end to this madness.
I came up with an idea.
“Poison Free New Zealand, Nationwide Protest Day”
Some awesome people have given hours of support, working flat out to make this whole project a reality.
We are just a group of ordinary people who want a fair playing field. We want the people of New Zealand to see the other side of the story.
It’s amazing what people can achieve when they work together.
15th October:- website went live, still not perfect, however we wanted to get it out there.
It’s all still a work in progress. So if there are any flaws, we apologise.
Paul Cohen
About 7 weeks ago I, like many people, thought that the Department of Conservation, (DoC), here in New Zealand were doing all good. They had to be, they've got the name conservation in their title.
I've heard about 1080, the toxic poison that Doc uses to eradicate rodents. Like most people I knew very little about it, apart from the fact that it's banned in most places in the world.
New Zealand uses 90% of the worlds supply of 1080.
I live on an idyllic island 35 minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland, Waiheke Island, with a population of about 8000.
This island is pretty much as good as it gets.
Doc had aerial dropped a toxic poison, Brodifacoum, on two of the islands between Auckland and Waiheke Island. We started seeing dead fish, penguins, even dogs walking on the beach were dying.
We’ve been told to stay off our beaches. No one knows for how long.
Kind of makes a mockery of our tourist campaign, 100% Pure New Zealand.
Along with many other people, I became increasingly concerned. So I started to do my own research.
The more I found out the more disturbed I became.
The aerial dumping of toxin indiscriminately kills, both target and non target species.
I also became aware of the lack of media communication and the lack of transparency by Doc.
To date 15 dogs have died on our beaches.
Doc has and continues to deny any correlation with this toxic poison.
I came across people who have been fighting for years to be heard.
Some have been ill for years following the dumping of toxic poisons.
They’ve been ignored, and have been singled out as irritants.
(On the mainland Doc uses 1080)
So what could I do.
I’m not really an activist. I’m just an acupuncturist, enjoying the good life in New Zealand. Having moved here from the UK 9 years ago.
I became incensed.
This appalling activity has been going on for 3 decades.
New Zealand, the Department of Conservation, prides themselves as being leaders in eradication of pests on islands, by the use of toxic aerial dumping of Brodifacoum.
They have a policy of revisiting targeted areas every 3 years, ad infinitum.
They have dumped this toxic poison on 60+ islands around New Zealand.
According to non Doc scientists, there is absolutely no proof that their policy is working.
The State of Hawaii has a very similar problem with feral mammals threatening native birds. Miles Nakahara, Forest and Wildlife manager says, “You are pretty cavalier using a poison like that ... you will destroy the forest ... you will lose the very thing you are trying to save”.
It’s appalling.
I needed to do something. And there was no way that I was going to spend the next 10 years complaining and not getting anywhere.
I made a pledge that I would have the aerial dumping of ALL poisons banned by Christmas 2009.
First it was imperative that people saw the sinister side of a this activity.
I knew that most clear thinking people would be as shocked as me.
This activity is so so wrong.
The Graf Boys, have been going around the country showing their documentary, “Poisoning Paradise”. It’s compelling and deeply disturbing.
ALL the main TV stations in New Zealand are currently refusing to show this documentary. Mainly because of propaganda, the powers that be do not want us to know what’s going on. But also for fear of litigation from Doc.
All we’re really trying to get is an even playing field.
So if we couldn’t use the forum of media to communicate, I was aware that more needed to be done.
So I had to come up with a plan. It had to be quick, and it had to be big.
I decided to coordinate a “Poison Free New Zealand” Nationwide Protest Day.
Which includes the launch of a unique music video “Enuf is Enuf” featuring a collaboration of New Zealand artists.
We needed people to know that there is a sinister side of the activity to toxic dumping, instead of being continually told that it is safe.
